Cvltica Ritual Beard Oils

Brand extension, packaging system, and retail launch

Cvltica expanded from apparel into small-batch ritual beard oils as a strategic brand extension into consumable goods. I developed the product identity, packaging system, label hierarchy, retail materials, and launch campaign to create a cohesive, premium offering aligned with the existing Cvltica aesthetic.

This project explores how a graphic brand can evolve into a physical product line without losing visual integrity.

Objective:

To design and launch a small-batch beard oil line that:

  • Extends the Cvltica brand beyond apparel
  • Maintains a minimalist occult aesthetic
  • Functions within cosmetic labeling requirements
  • Is production-ready for retail placement
  • Supports scalable wholesale growth

Brand Architecture & Positioning

Cvltica is structured around two primary pillars:

  • Apparel
  • Ritual Goods

The beard oils were positioned under “Ritual Goods” to distinguish them from merchandise and elevate them as intentional, crafted products.

The tone was defined as:

  • Minimal
  • Symbol-driven
  • Ritualistic but modern
  • Premium without excess ornamentation

The product names (Grave Pine, Ash Root, Iron Resin, Black Tallow) reinforce scent identity while maintaining cohesive naming logic.

Sigil & Label System

I developed a minimalist sigil system to differentiate scents while maintaining a unified visual language.

Design principles:

  • Strict vertical alignment
  • High contrast black and white
  • Strong typographic hierarchy
  • Generous negative space
  • Modular structure adaptable across scents

Each label follows a consistent structure:

  • Sigil
  • Brand mark
  • Product name
  • Product type
  • Net weight
  • Ingredient block

This modular approach allows future scent expansion without redesigning the system.

Packaging & Compliance

The back label system was designed to meet cosmetic labeling best practices, including:

  • Ingredient list in descending order by weight
  • INCI naming
  • Net contents declaration
  • Manufacturer identification
  • Usage and safety statements

Constraints included:

  • Small-format label real estate
  • Readability at retail distance
  • Print efficiency for small batches

The result balances regulatory clarity with aesthetic restraint.

Point-of-Sale & In-Store Display

To support in-store placement, I designed:

  • Minimalist QR-based sales card
  • Counter display layout
  • Brewery-ready point-of-sale signage
  • Social media launch assets

The retail materials were optimized for:

  • Low-light brewery environments
  • Fast visual recognition
  • Immediate pricing clarity
  • Frictionless mobile payment

Production Strategy

The product line was developed with scalability in mind:

  • Bulk carrier oil sourcing
  • Cost-optimized bottle procurement
  • Label system adaptable to multiple sizes
  • Wholesale pricing model at 50% retail

Retail: $28
Wholesale: $14

Initial Placement

The first retail placement was secured at a local Denver brewery, allowing for:

  • Live market testing
  • Scent preference validation
  • Pricing confirmation
  • Brand visibility in a physical environment

This phase validated both packaging clarity and consumer response.

Outcome

The project demonstrates:

  • Brand system expansion
  • Packaging design under regulatory constraints
  • Retail-ready asset creation
  • Strategic product positioning
  • Integration of design, pricing, and distribution

Cvltica Ritual Goods now functions as a scalable extension of the brand identity rather than a disconnected product experiment.
